Dr. Cyril Picard

I work on building an AI Engineering Assistant by bridging machine learning and optimization to support efficient and accessible engineering design. I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (DeCoDE lab, Prof. Faez Ahmed) and a recipient of a Swiss National Science Foundation Postdoc.mobility fellowship. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at ETH Zürich (EDAC, Prof. Kristina Shea) , where I was responsible for the redesign of the course Engineering Design and Material Selection. I earned my PhD from EPFL in Lausanne where I worked with Prof. Jürg Schiffmann on a design automation tool for the rapid development of electro-mechanical actuators.

Research Interests

My research interest is to move computational methods from the labs into the real world, by leveraging the learning capabilities of modern artificial intelligence to develop efficient, widely applicable, and easy-to-use methods and tools, including optimization. The goal is to enable anyone to benefit from the power of machines to obtain customized designs including control strategies fitting their unique needs.
